Match 2 we tested our mettle against creatureless Dimir Control and while we could squeak a game out their edicts did away with our pingers. Match 1 was a burn mirror and we were capable of taking care of their threats while matching their power on the stack. Tonight we went 4 and 8 in games, 1 and 4 in matches. Needle Drop allows for card draw that furthers our plan while Curse is going to whittle away our opponent’s life whether they’ve got the ] or not. These spells help the often inconsistent red deck gain a bit of ground in that realm. I chose these specific spells from burn because they do the best job controlling our opponent’s board when we need two turns of pinging to win before they go bananas using a ].įinally, ] and ] are ported over from burn as well. For this reason ], ], ] and ] all join the fray. Sometimes spending several turns pinging your opponent won’t get the job done fast enough. ] likely needs no introduction or defense as it synergizes perfectly with what the next package in our deck is doing. Next is ] acting as reds ] analogue (albeit with a third of the butt and not half as you’d expect) picking faeries out of the sky while threatening our opponent’s life-total. This creature plays around ] splendidly, blocks 3 power creatures and ] and even deals damage around ]. These creatures may live to see their third drop of our opponent’s life total but our 2-drop pingers had to bring a bit more to the table to make the cut.įirst is ] which, while compromising our mana base, does help in a number of ways. It joins as copies 5 through 8 of ], another one drop ping thing.
